RMUTL Assists Flood Victims in Chiang Mai – October 10, 2024

On October 10, 2024, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) continues its mission to assist flood victims, preparing for the next phase of sustainable community recovery. This initiative focuses on utilizing the expertise of faculty members, students, and knowledge from various fields to restore homes, repair electrical appliances, and create new livelihood opportunities for those affected. This effort is in collaboration with partner networks and follows the initial relief operations, which began on October 5, 2024. Faculty members, students, and supporters from both the public and private sectors have come together to alleviate immediate hardship and prepare for the next phase, which will focus on mobilizing personnel and knowledge to help restore homes and appliances, while simultaneously creating new job opportunities for the long-term benefit of the community.

This collaboration reaffirms RMUTL’s mission as a "leading university in professional education, technology, and innovation." The university aims to produce graduates who are practitioners, innovators, and entrepreneurs equipped with the skills to elevate the quality of life for society, communities, and local areas sustainably. The university’s flood relief operations have been supported by faculty members and students from the Tourism and Hospitality Program of the Faculty of Business Administration and Liberal Arts, and the Food Business and Nutrition Program of the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology from both Chiang Mai and Tak campuses. These groups have played a crucial role in preparing food for distribution to the flood victims. Their participation not only addresses immediate relief needs but also applies the skills and knowledge they have learned in their studies to real-world situations. This experience has been invaluable in helping students develop teamwork and resource management skills, while enhancing their expertise in tourism, hospitality, and nutrition, aligned with RMUTL’s mission to produce capable graduates, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

Moreover, the Institute of Technology Transfer to the Community has been another key player in the relief efforts, deploying a mobile water production unit (Hydro Pure) to produce over 47,000 bottles of drinking water for distribution to flood victims. This comprehensive collaboration demonstrates the coordination between various RMUTL departments, with faculty, students, and staff using their expertise and resources to alleviate the suffering of affected communities during this crisis.

RMUTL not only provides academic education but also serves as a hub for generating technological and innovative knowledge that can be effectively applied in real-life situations. With collaboration from all sectors, RMUTL remains committed to developing its students into key contributors who can build a better and more sustainable future, not just for Thailand but also as part of the global effort towards sustainable development.

This collaboration represents a significant step towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1: No Poverty, Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
